Siemens Completes $10 Billion Acquisition of Altair to Enhance Industrial Simulation Capabilities

Siemens has successfully completed its acquisition of Altair Engineering, a leading industrial simulation and analysis software company, in a deal valued at approximately $10 billion. The announcement came on March 26, marking a significant expansion of Siemens’ capabilities in the industrial software sector.

This strategic acquisition strengthens Siemens’ position in simulation and industrial AI by incorporating Altair’s advanced expertise in mechanical and electromagnetic simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), data science, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Advancing Digital Twin Technology

The integration of Altair’s technology will accelerate Siemens’ development of “digital twins” – comprehensive digital replicas of physical assets, processes, people, places, systems, and equipment. These digital models serve multiple purposes across industries and will make simulation more accessible to companies of all sizes, helping them bring complex products to market faster.

Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens AG, welcomed Altair’s customers, partners, and colleagues to Siemens. He highlighted how combining Altair’s innovative solutions with Siemens’ Xcelerator platform will create “the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of AI-driven design, engineering, and simulation.”

Enhancing Industrial Software Leadership

Through its “ONE Tech Company” initiative, Siemens aims to strengthen its leadership position in industrial software, enabling industries across the board to leverage data and AI-driven transformation. Altair’s specialized knowledge in simulation, high-performance computing, data science, and AI will help Siemens deliver more efficient and sustainable products and processes.

The acquisition will benefit Siemens’ customers – from professional engineers to casual users – by providing enhanced simulation capabilities to optimize high-performance computing processes, develop new AI tools, and perform advanced data analysis. This expanded toolkit will help accelerate innovation and digital transformation for organizations of all sizes.

Strategic Growth and Investment

The Altair acquisition represents a key component of Siemens’ “ONE Tech Company” initiative and will significantly increase the company’s digital revenue share. Siemens is strategically allocating capital to growth areas through acquisitions and R&D investments in software, AI products, connected hardware, and sustainability solutions.

With the completion of the Altair deal and recent expansions of Siemens’ facilities in California and Texas, the company has invested more than $100 billion in the United States over the past two decades, demonstrating its long-term commitment to the American market.
