Radix ILS hires Barnes Binnie & Jin, who bring retro, ILW, underwriting, actuarial expertise

Radix Insurance Linked Strategies (Radix ILS), the recently launched Bermuda-based third-party capital manager and tech-first reinsurance capacity deployment company, has made two hires in Bermuda, adding underwriting and actuarial expertise in instruments including property, retrocession and industry-loss warranties (ILWs).Radix Insurance Linked Strategies (Radix ILS) was founded in 2025 with a digital-first approach to enabling partner capital to access the returns of insurance and reinsurance business, by creating direct investment opportunities into insurance-linked risks and with a focus on optimising capital allocations.
The company then recently launched Radix Alpha Ltd., registered as a collateralized insurer class company in Bermuda, the first underwriting vehicle for Radix ILS.
Now, the build-out of expertise on the island to source, assess and service risk for third-party capital providers has begun, with two key hires.
First, Radix ILS has hired Rachel Barnes Binnie, who was most recently a VP and retrocession focused reinsurance broker at Aon.

Barnes Binnie spent almost four years broking in Bermuda for Aon, with a focus on retrocessional reinsurance opportunities.
Prior to that, she spent almost 6 years at Hamilton, as a catastrophe modelling analyst and property reinsurance underwriter.
Radix ILS has also hired Gordon Jin, an actuary with specific expertise in the retrocession market and on industry-loss warranty (ILW) instruments who also worked at Aon in his most recent role.

His global experience spans Guy Carpenter in Shanghai and Willis Towers Watson in Toronto, giving him a unique international perspective on reinsurance markets.

At Aon, Jin was a VP and retro and ILW actuary, spending 4 years at the company based in Bermuda.
Prior to that, Jin spent almost 2 years at Guy Carpenter, working as a reinsurance actuary, prior to which he was a P&C actuarial associate at WTW.
These two hires bring a wide-range of experience in property catastrophe reinsurance and retrocession, as well as in trading with ILS markets and assisting clients with structuring and arranging instruments such as ILWs.
