Next-Gen Intelligent Driving Technology Coming to VW Models in 2026

Horizon Robotics and Volkswagen Group have announced plans to expand their partnership in the high-end automotive sector, leveraging Horizon’s comprehensive intelligent driving solution HSD (Horizon SuperDrive). The collaboration will see new-generation high-end intelligent driving solutions, developed jointly by Volkswagen’s software technology company CARIAD China and Horizon Robotics‘ joint venture CARIZON, gradually integrated into Volkswagen Group’s new models starting in 2026.
The Horizon HSD system is powered by the Horizon Journey 6P, which combines specialized hardware and end-to-end software architecture to deliver what the company describes as an “ultimate anthropomorphic experience” with superior traffic efficiency and refined performance. The system is designed to efficiently handle diverse driving scenarios, from complex urban intersections to narrow road U-turns, busy mixed-traffic environments, and internal park roads.
Beyond its practical driving capabilities, HSD features an advanced Human-Machine Interface (HMI) that draws inspiration from triple-A gaming titles. This interface provides immersive visualization of the traffic environment and relationships between traffic participants as understood by the system. According to Horizon, this approach helps reduce anxiety around human-machine trust issues while enhancing the overall user experience.
