Local Mobile Manufacturing in Pakistan Reaches 4.88 Million Units by February 2025


ISLAMABAD: The local manufacturing/ assembling plants manufactured/ assembled 4.88 million mobile handsets during the first two months (January-February) of the calendar year 2025 compared to 0.37 million imported commercially.

Official data revealed that the local manufacturing / assembling plants manufactured/assembled 31.38 million mobile phone handsets during the last calendar year 2024 compared to 1.71 million imported commercially.

The 4.88 million mobile handsets manufactured/assembled locally included 2.85 million 2G and 2.03 million smartphones. Besides, as per the PTA data, 66 per cent of mobile devices are smartphones, and 34 per cent are 2G on the Pakistan network.

The country imported mobile phones worth $1 billion in the first eight months (July-February) of the current fiscal year 2024-25, registering a negative growth of 12.89 percent when compared to $1.148 billion during the same period of the last fiscal year 2023-24.

In rupee terms, the country imported mobile handsets worth Rs 278.366 billion during the first eight months of the current fiscal year and registered negative growth of 14.80 percent when compared to Rs326.732 billion during the same period of last fiscal year.

Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.898 billion during the fiscal year 2023-24, compared to $570.071 million during the fiscal year 2022-23.

Pakistan’s mobile phone imports decreased by 1.21 percent on a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis in February 2025 and stood at $132.620 million compared to imports of $134.243 million in January 2025, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

On Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, mobile phone imports witnessed negative growth of 17.57 percent when compared to $160.890 million in February 2024.
