iOS 19 May Drop Support for iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max Models

In a significant development for Apple users, the upcoming iOS 19 system will no longer support several older iPhone models. According to tech publication 9To5Mac, three popular devices will be left behind in this update cycle: the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.
Which iPhones Will Support iOS 19?
If you’re wondering whether your device will receive the latest features and security updates, here’s the complete list of iPhone models that will support iOS 19:
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 and 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13 and 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15 and 15 Plus
- iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16e
- iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
- iPhone SE (3rd generation)
If this rumor will be true, then this move marks the end of software support for the XS series and XR models, which were released back in 2018 and have enjoyed nearly seven years of updates.
iPad Support Changes, Too
It’s not just iPhone users who need to take note. The report also reveals that iPadOS 19 will discontinue support for the seventh-generation iPad released in September 2019, further indicating Apple’s forward-moving software strategy.
Conflicting Reports
Interestingly, this information contradicts earlier claims made by iPhoneSoft last year, which suggested that all models supporting iOS 18 would be eligible for the iOS 19 upgrade. While both sources have proven accurate in their predictions previously, it’s worth noting that iPhoneSoft incorrectly predicted in 2021 that iOS 15 would drop support for the iPhone 6S and first-generation iPhone SE.
For owners of affected devices, this development may signal it’s time to consider upgrading to a newer model if they wish to continue receiving the latest features, performance improvements, and security updates that come with new iOS versions.
Apple typically announces its new iOS versions at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), usually held in June, with public releases following in September alongside new iPhone launches.
