Recent information from reliable leaker HXL suggests that AMD’s next-generation desktop APUs for the AM5 platform are scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Ryzen 9000G Series: A Significant Architectural Leap
According to reports, these upcoming processors will be branded as the Ryzen 9000G series and will feature AMD’s cutting-edge Zen 5 CPU cores. This represents a substantial improvement over the Zen 4 cores currently found in the Ryzen 8000G lineup.
The new APUs are reportedly based on AMD’s “Strix Point” platform, which will introduce a hybrid core design with up to 12 cores in total. This innovative configuration includes four high-performance Zen 5 cores paired with eight energy-efficient Zen 5c cores, allowing for better performance scaling across different workload types.
Enhanced Graphics and AI Capabilities
Graphics performance is also expected to see a significant boost in the 9000G series. The integrated GPU will reportedly be based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture and feature up to 16 compute units (CUs). This represents a substantial upgrade from the current Ryzen 8000G series, which maxes out at 12 CUs using the RDNA 3 architecture.
The leaks also suggest these new APUs will include AMD’s second-generation XDNA 2 neural processing unit (NPU), designed specifically for AI workloads. This NPU is rumored to deliver up to 50 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI computing performance, positioning these processors for the increasingly AI-focused computing landscape.
Final Zen 5 Products Before Architecture Transition
Interestingly, the report indicates that the Ryzen 9000G series will likely be AMD’s final products based on the Zen 5 architecture. The company is reportedly planning to transition to its next-generation Zen 6 architecture in 2026, marking another step in AMD’s consistent architectural evolution.
Budget-Friendly Options Also Expected
For budget-conscious users, HXL mentioned that AMD might also release a Ryzen 9000F series alongside the 9000G processors. These more affordable options would exclude integrated graphics, making them a potentially attractive option for users who plan to pair their CPUs with dedicated graphics cards.
